Xbox One News: Shock Xbox One X reveal, Games with Gold Update, Black Ops 4 DLC release (Pic: MICROSOFT)

Microsoft's Xbox One X is widely considered the best and most powerful console on the market and as recent sales figures have shown, the console isn't doing all that bad.

If you put a pin in that big stack of PS4 exclusive games and compare and contrast the two leading consoles (PS4 Pro and Xbox One X) just on specs, there's no denying that it's Microsoft's console heavyweight who comes out on top.

As such, it's pretty much the best place to play those third party games. As Digitial Foundry has so often shown with games such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Assassin's Creed Odyssey and many more.

But it's also an excellent place to play older titles, not just because of Xbox's Backwards Compatibility commitments, but also because there are many games which have been enhanced specifically for Xbox One X.

However, some bad news for Xbox One X owners this week, as it's been revealed that three popular titles previously listed as having Xbox One X enhancements on the way, have now apparently been scrubbed.

According to gamerheadquarters.com, RiME, Firewatch and Bulletstorm: Full Clip Edition were all set to receive a boost in performance, which is no longer happening.

There's no reason given for why these titles have had Xbox One X support dropped. Who knows, maybe developers are slowly switching priorities with Microsoft's next console just on the horizon.

Aside from Red Dead Redemption 2, one of the biggest releases of October, nay, the year, has been Call of Duty Black Ops 4 and earlier this week the game dropped the first slice of new DLC as part of a huge new update.

This new content arrives as part of the games Black Ops Pass, here's what's included:

  • New Multiplayer Map, Elevation – A medium-sized map set in a cliffside town in the mountains of Nepal, Elevation features winding streets that snake around vertical positions where players will battle it out through close-quarter interiors and tight alleyways.
  • New Multiplayer Map, Madagascar – A larger map set on a rural plateau in Madagascar, the town sits atop a hill where a medical-relief convoy that has been ambushed, and it is surrounded by flanking routes with diverse, natural environments and powerful cover for players trying to dominate the hill.
  • New Zombies Experience, Dead of the Night – This all-new undead experience is set in 1912 and drops players into a lavish estate owned by the famed relic-hunter Alistair Rhodes, where theyll step into the role of a new set of characters. As the unlikely crew of heroes bands together, theyll equip all-new weapons to fight the mysterious force that has taken over the party. Players will also take on a variety of Zombies, including new enemies such as vampires and werewolves, and much more, to survive the nightmarish evening. Dead of the Night stars an iconic cast of actors who lend their voice and likeness to the game: Madame Mirela (Helena Bonham Carter), Gideon Jones (Kiefer Sutherland), “The Brigadier” (Brian Blessed) and the Butler, Godfrey (Charles Dance).
  • New Blackout Character, Reaper – Owners of the Black Ops Pass get instant access to the cyborg mercenary Reaper, a fan-favorite Specialist character from Black Ops III, now coming to Blackout.

The only issue, for now, is that this DLC is currently only available on PS4. Thankfully though, Xbox players don't have long to wait as this new content will become available on Xbox One and PC next week, on December 18.

It's the middle of the month and that means we've reached the point whereby the monthly Games with Gold changeover occurs – and that means NEW games.

Previously, players could pick up Dragon Age 2 along with the last remaining November Games with Gold title, Race The Sun, but as of this weekend Xbox One and Xbox 360 players now have two more games to enjoy.

As always, these are free to own provided you have a valid Xbox Live subscription.

The two games available as of this weekend are Never Alone (Xbox One) and the original Xbox title, Mercenaries: Playground of Destruction.
