World War Z Game Reviews: Mixed reviews for new zombie shooter following release (Pic: PH)

World War Z is out now, available on PS4, Xbox One and PC. But with the games developers only sending out code to reviewers fairly late, reviews for the game haven't been all that forthcoming.

For anyone coming into this fresh, the game is a third-person shooter in a similar vein to the Left 4 Dead series that's been long overdue a new game in quite a few years.

Like the film and book of which it's based on, World War Z sees players engage in firefights with waves and waves of undead zombies.

And like the source material, players also engage the zombie apocalypse at various locations around the world, including the cities of Moscow, New York, Jerusalem, and Tokyo.

The game also has a PVP element too it, should you so wish, but most players will likely get the biggest kick out of the four-player cooperative action that's dominated most of the gameplay we've seen so far.

Until reviewers have a bit more time it's unlikely we'll get a true reflection of how good the game is for another few days, at best, but potentially another week.

Either way, we've rounded up a collection of reviews people have released to give you an idea of what some people are saying. So read on!

Cultured Vultures – No Score

I still have a ways to go with World War Z, but I am already very pleasantly surprised by it. To be clear, its never winning any awards and the comparisons to Left 4 Dead may be too unavoidable for some (basically any squad shooter with zombies will fall into that category, to be fair), but World War Z is a light and breezy shooter that you can take a bite out of for a budget price.

Gamers Heroes – 4/10

World War Z has some moments that are an utter blast – the special zombie types and the impending doom of a zombie tower bring pure excitement. However, these moments are few and far between, leaving a shell of a game with very little content, a lack of creativity, a near non-existent story, and a disappointingly shallow progression system.

MSPoweruser – 8/10

World War Z is a thrilling zombie shooter that tries its best to echo the awe-inspiring crowds seen in its cinematic interpretation. If you compare the two side-by-side, it doesnt actually get that close, but it emulates the feeling of dread almost perfectly. With fantastic combat and some solid level design, this is the zombie co-op shooter of the generation. I just wish it had more missions.

PowerUp Gaming – Review in Progress

The gameplay is fun but grindy and repetitive and whilst Im not disappointed in World War Z, I feel like it has slightly missed its launch window. World War Z is the kind of game that needs a dedicated squad to play with. Each of you fleshes out your roles within the team and take on the higher difficulties or trophies together. Outside of that, I dont see it living a particularly long life, not with such hotly anticipated multiplayRead More – Source
