Kondabolu responded swiftly on Twitter: "Wow. “Politically Incorrect?” Thats the takeaway from my movie & the discussion it sparked? Man, I really loved this show. This is sad."
The documentary, which gleaned opinions on the character of Apu Nahasapeemapetilon from Indian-American stars, including Aziz Ansari and Hasan Minhaj, cited Apu as an example of TV's "problematic" depiction of people of colour.
"It's insulting, it's inaccurate and it represents a larger problem where people don't get to speak for themselves," Kondabolu, who is of Indian descent, said about the character.
Hank Azaria, who has voiced Apu since 1990, based on a 7-Eleven worker from his Los Angeles neighbourhood, sparked speculation last year that the character could be dropped.
"I think the documentary made some really interesting points and gave us a lot to think about, and we really are thinking about it," Azaria told TMZ.
"Definitely anybody that was hurt or offended by it, or by any character or vocal performance, it's really upsetting that it was offensive or hurtful to anybody… We're still thinking about it."
But the latest episode appeared to suggest that the show had no plans to get rid of Apu just yet, with Marge and Lisa telling viewers: "Some things will be dealt with at a later date… if at all."
The Simpsons, already the longest-running primetime TV show, was renewed for its 30th season, which will see it air until 2019.
The show now airs in Australia on the Seven Network's 7mate channel after it was pulled off free-to-air TV last year, when Ten's sale to CBS saw the local network drop its traditional Fox content.
