Chinese electronics company Xiaomi is recalling more than 10,000 electric scooters due to safety concerns – with more than 7,800 affected models sold in the UK.

The company said a screw in the folding scooter was coming loose in thousands of models, meaning the handles could break off the scooter base while being used.

It confirmed there were 10,257 affected units which had been produced between 27 October and 5 December 2018.

Most of these scooters were sold in the UK, where 7,849 models were sold. Other affected regions include Germany (613), Spain (509) and Denmark (258).

The company stated it has fixed the issue with the manufacturer moving forward.
