The 40-Year-Old Virgin actor Shelley Malil will be released from prison on bail next month after serving eight years for stabbing his girlfriend over 20 times.
Malil, 53, was given a life sentence in 2010 for admitting that he was trying to murder Kendra Beeb, then 23, outside her home in California, while her children were inside.
Ms Beeb suffered a punctured lung, wounds to her neck, chest, back and arms and life-changing injuries to her face when she was attacked with a kitchen knife, followed by a broken wine glass.
The instrument narrowly missed her carotid artery in her neck.
The Independent quotes a report by San Diego Union-Tribune in which Halil told the court during his trial: I wasnt trying to hurt her – I was trying to murder her.

Malils attack on Beeb, at her California home in 2008, is believed to have happened when he arrived home to find her drinking wine with another man.
When he was convicted at trial in 2010, he was initially told he would serve 12 years without option of parole.

After serving eight, he will now be out on supervised parole for five years.
Malil starred as Steve Carrells co-worker Maziz in The 40-Year-Old Virgin. He also had parts in Scrubs and NYPD Blue.
He failed to find work after the 2005 film and admitted that alcoholism and jealously led him to fly into a jealous rage that night.
Malil proved to the parole board – who decided unanimously on his release – that he had changed through rehabilitation and assured them he would not make another victim.
