Spike Lee attacked President Donald Trump Thursday as not a “true New Yorker” because hes “about hate” and not love.

The comments came during a red carpet interview with The Hollywood Reporter Thursday night. The 61-year-old director was asked if he thought Trump, as a native New Yorker, embodies the spirit of a “true New Yorker.”

“We aint claiming him. We aint claiming Agent Orange. Because New York Citys about love, especially Brooklyn,” Lee explained in a video posted Friday on Instagram by the magazine from the eighth annual Hollywood Reporters 35 Most Powerful People in New York Media event. “Brooklyn is spreading love,” he added. “And he aint about love. Hes about hate.”

However, former White House communications director, Anthony Scaramucci answered why he thought Trump was “definitely” a New Yorker.

“I definitely think the president is a New Yorker,” Scaramucci explained. ” That could be one of the problems hes having in Washington because stylistically, you know, New Yorkers are very different than the Washingtonians.”
