Robert De Niro admitted he has never been this politically active in his life, but that President Donald Trump forces him to “speak out.”

“I have never been this active,” the 74-year-old actor explained during his appearance on the “Today” show Wednesday. “But when I see whats going on with this guy, you have no choice but to be active.”

“Its past the point of being passive,” he added. “People have to speak out. They have to speak out over and over and over again. This guy, this administration, is beyond belief. It has to stop.”

Earlier in the segment, he commented on his recent portrayal on “Saturday Night Live” of special counsel Robert Mueller and how he hopes to keep playing him so he can put Trump behind bars.

“I hope theres a couple where I interrogate him [Trump]. Then I arrest him, and I escort him to jail,” De Niro explained.

It was not the first time the actor has criticized Trump. Last month, he went on a tirade against the president at a charity event in Los Angeles.

“A college education is important, but education without humanity is ignorance. Look at our president. He made it through the University of Pennsylvania, so he was exposed to a quality education, but hes still an idiot,” De Niro said. “And he lacks any sense of humanity or compassion.”

“And it is especially appropriate tonight, Trump treats education as a con — a way to make a profit at the expense of the suckers. Anyone here planning to get their education at Trump University,” he added. “To be silent in the face of such villainy is to be complicit.”

“But dont be discouraged, young people. Get your degree from a legitimate institution; you dont have to become president — you can get an honest job,” he concluded. “Or become president–why not?–and restore integrity and dignity to the job.”
