Red Dead Redemption 2 Nintendo Switch Release Date Reveal? Rockstar news update gives hope (Pic: ROCKSTAR)
It turns out we may well see Red Dead Redemption 2 on the Nintendo Switch after all.
In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Amie noted that the game didn't release on the plucky little handheld because of size or technical limitations, but rather it was simply a matter of timing.
"Wed love for it to be [on Switch],” Fils-Amie said to Hollywood Reporter.
"But again – and this is where there needs to be an understanding of just the development process – Red Dead has been in development for years, time that predated any communication of Nintendo Switch.
"So, from the developers mentality, they need to move forward and finish the game theyve been working on and then be in a position to look at other opportunities.
"Any game from a key third-party thats coming out now, typically that development started well before any conversations about Nintendo Switch.

What happens moving forward? Well see. But thats how you wind up with a situation with Red Dead not being available on our platform."
Fils-Amie doesn't mention that the game clocks in on two discs for PS4/Xbox One, nor that it's one of the most technically ambitious games out there. His comments still seem to suggest we may see the game on the console.
It seems hard to imagine now, but with the likes of Bethesda managing to port DOOM and Wolfenstein 2 to the device, you can see how small sacrifices in graphics and performance allow bigger titles to run on the machine.
We're skeptical – and if the game does release on Switch, it'll certainly be in the future – but comments like this (from people we trust) are keeping our hopes of seeing Arthur Morgan and crew on the hybrid handheld alive.
More recently Red Dead Redemption 2 managed to make it back to back weeks in the No.1 UK boxed charts.
GamesIndustry.biz has also noted that this is Rockstar's second UK number one at Christmas, with the first being Grand Theft Auto: Vice City in 2002.
And for anyone who does pick up the game this Christmas will find a nice festive surprise in the game.
Rockstar seems to have introduced a series of new musical files into the game which manifests as carols being sung in bars and in social areas around pianos.
Songs include festive carols such as “Deck the Halls,” “We Three Kings,” and “O Holy Night”.
