Red Dead Redemption 2 News: SHOCK PC update ahead of PS4 and Xbox release date (Pic: ROCKSTAR)

The Red Dead Redemption 2 release date is coming this week, with Rockstar games preparing to launch the game this Friday on PS4 and Xbox One.

But for months, PC players have been crying out for information on a potential PC release date. Even if that means having to wait a little longer than usual.

At one point fans had even started a Change.org petition which very quickly generated over 50,000+ signatures.

But there's some good news for fans this weekend, as a new leak has sent the rumour mill into overdrive with suggestions that Rockstar IS preparing a 2019 PC release for the game.

It comes via the website for one of Europe's "largest retailers for consumer electronics" and was spotted by TechTastic who managed to grab a screenshot of the site before it was taken down.

It's possible this is just a placeholder, but that doesn't change the fact there's plenty of prior info to suggest something believable about a PC release date for Red Dead Redemption 2.

For starters, earlier this year people discovered a Rockstar employee had a PC listing attached to their work on Red Dead Redemption 2 on LinkedIn.

Naturally, this was removed, but it's odd that it existed in the first place. After all, if you're working on the game, you probably know what platforms it's coming to.

Officially Rockstar has said nothing about a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2, but fans of the series seem pretty sure it's coming in the future.

Not just because Rockstar eventually released GTA V on PC, but also because earlier this year it was also revealed that Red Dead Redemption 2 could be coming to PC release thanks to a leak by one of the most popular DRM providers.

DRM providers essentially help stop piracy and according to www.rdr2.com, Denuvo Software Solutions, one of the many forms of DRM providers, may have leaked plans for a new Rockstar PC release.

"The most important takeaway from this is that Rockstar will be using Denuvo in the future. Denuvo is only used on PC. If Rockstar will be using it, then they will be releasing something for PC.

"Their only upcoming game that we know about is Red Dead Redemption 2. Putting two and two together here shouldnt be too hard."

"RDR2 getting an eventual release on PC in spite of no PC version having been announced is a common expectation." later claimed the rdr2.com site.

"Since GTA 5 pulled a similar stunt, releasing the PC port almost 2 years after initial launch, many think the PC port will simply arrive later – maybe much later.

"There are a handful of good arguments to support a PC port. If we were to compare the ports of GTA 4 and GTA 5, massive strides forward can be noted, meaning Rockstar pumped a lot of cash into upgrading their PC development pipeline and structure.

"Theyre unlikely to allow that investment to go down the drain with their first new project since."

The first Red Dead Redemption was never released on PC and despite constant calls from fans to make it available on PC, Rockstar has given no indication as to whether they'll bring it to PC at any stage in the future.

Speaking during the call, Take Two bosses described the PC market as "very important, very exciting", but curtailed the discussion by also saying that some titles sell better on PC while others don't:

"It really depends on the title. Some titles are actually heavily weighted to PC, for example, Civilization and XCOM, [but] some titles are less weighted to PC," President Karl Slatoff explained.

"The great news is that the PC market is vibrant for us. It's a great market. It's a big market. It's a core market.

"These are consumers who are highly engaged. It's a predominantly digital market, which also removes friction in terms of ongoing engagement with the consumer. So for us, the PC market as a company is very important, very exciting, and something we focus on."

When asked directly if Red Dead Redemption 2 would be coming out for PC, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said it's up to Rockstar Games to make an announcement.

"Any updates about any of our titles will come from our labels," Zelnick said.
