PS5 Games: Good news and bad for PS4, Xbox – Another PlayStation 5 game release confirmed? (Pic: DS)

Sony PlayStation fans spent the tail end of this week looking back with a heartwarming sense of nostalgia.

Players one by one lined up to share their PS4 life videos showing how many hours they'd ploughed into games this generation.

Countless hours of Destiny 2, Overwatch, Final Fantasy and so many more games were given their time to shine in a nice little montage for fans to share with friends.

But with 2018 almost over the horizon is becoming full to the brim with exciting new games that will be coming to Sony's next console, the PS5.

Obviously, there are still big questions to be answered such as How much will the PS5 cost? Will the PS5 be PS4 backwards compatible?

But the questions that interest fans the most, is what games will come to Sony's next-gen PlayStation?

Trending

There are already a number of titles which we can comfortably chalk up as being in development for Sony's PlayStation 5.

In the first party bracket, it seems likely that we'll see God of War 2, Horizon Zero Dawn 2 and potentially a new Uncharted titled from Naughty Dog as well (although Nathan Drake probably won't be on the cards).

We've also seen, potentially, a look at GT Sport (or some version of GT Sport) running at 8K during a Sony presentation.

Then there's your third-party developers. Bethesda has committed to next-gen for Starfield and Elder Scrolls 6 whilst Activision's Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, is also believed to be working on a game for next-gen machines.

And earlier this month yet another developer all but confirmed that their next game in a rather popular series will be released on whatever consoles come next.

Speaking at the computer entertainment developers conference in Japan earlier this month the Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii touched upon the next game in the series.

According to Gamatsu it was Level-5 president and CEO Akihiro Hino, who moderated the panel, and who also asked Horii, “How is the 12th entry going?” referring to the next game in the series following the wildly successful Dragon Quest XI.

Responding Horii said, “I actually already came up with the keywords, but I cant say anything here. (Laughs.)”

The game designer then added, “However, since Dragon Quest XIs scenario was well-received, this time I want the same reception for the gameplay systems, but I could also surprise everyone and make it an epic. Now I just feel like teasing everyone. (Laughs.).”

Horii's last tease for the audience was, “I keep absentmindedly thinking about making the theme the feeling of wanting to make dreams come true.'”

However the really interesting news from the discussion concerned around when we might see Dragon Quest XII, especially since Dragon Quest XI was technically finished last year (when it first launched in Japan).

Horii's final word was that a Dragon Quest XII is “still many years away.”

Given that the Dragon Quest games are normally spaced out with a four-year gap between each game (putting aside spin-offs and remakes) it's possible we could see the next Dragon Quest game launch around 2021.

And with most theories suggesting we'll see new console hardware roll out by around 2020, you can pretty much bet that this will be yet another game you can pencil in as coming to next-gen consoles like Sony's PS5.

Better still with the previous Dragon Quest XI game skipping an Xbox One release altogether, who knows, maybe the latest title in the series could once again come to Sony's PlayStation and not the competition.
