A new report this week has given Sony's PlayStation Plus subscription service a welcome boost.

According to details published by Investment group Third Point, Sony's PlayStation Plus service might be the fifth largest consumer subscription service in the world.

The report details that PS Plus sits between Apple Music and Hulu based on Paying subscribers.

Sony's main competitor, Xbox Live Gold, came in just behind Hulu. But the report seemed to suggest that Microsoft's service had a little under half the same paying subscribers by comparison.

Third Points report also indicated that PS Plus was utilised by 40% of the install base of the PS4.
