PS4 Free Games Bonus: New PS Plus July freebie added after Sony's PES 2019 lineup change (Pic: Daily Star)

If you have a PS4, PS Plus and also have PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019 or PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019 LITE, then you're about to get hit with some of the rarest of news. Good news!

There are always a few hidden goodies for PS Plus subscribers tucked away on the PS Store, but finding them can be tricky, as there is rarely any rhyme or reason to it all. It's a lot like life in that respect, hard to find your way through and it doesn't make much sense, but you know you need to leave as soon as you can. Actually, less like life, more like IKEA.

Back to the point at hand. If you head to PSN you should find a special rewards for PES 2019. It's not the free game as was originally promised for PS Plus subscribers (more on that further down) but something entirely different.

It's hard to notice though, partly because it's so incredibly poorly worded that you would probably think it's some sort of error.

The listing on PSN reads: “This is an exclusive PlayStation Plus offer. Join PlayStation Plus A bonus available to PlayStation Plus members in July 2019. Claim this bonus in myClub mode in both PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019 and PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER 2019 LITE”.

Which is about as clear as mud, and not all sites seem willing to explain what on earth it actually is (which is helpful).

For those curious, what you're getting is a bonus 10,000 GP and 8 Special Agent Lv. 1 Silver players for PES 2019 or PES 2019 Lite.

GP, again for anyone completely oblivious, is the in-game currency used to acquire better players/managers and renew your teams contracts in myTeam mode. PES' equivalent FIFA 19 Ultimate Team mode.

So in short, this PS Plus July 2019 bonus is strictly for anyone who already owns PES 2019 or PES 2019 Lite. For anyone else, it's well, useless. A shame really, as it might have been a nice extra bonus for anyone new to the game, had Sony kept the game as one of its July 2019 free games.

It's been an incredibly tumultuous time for PS Plus over the last couple of weeks. Partly due to the announcement and subsequent swapping out of PES 2019 as one of the free PS Plus games for July.

For those unaware, the PS Plus lineup for July changed quite a bit this month, with PES 2019 removed, quite suddenly we might add, in favour of Detroit: Become Human.

The change came after a bit of a furore about the inclusion of PES 2019 in the first place, which is a shame because it's not a bad football game. The only thing we'd had previously was this message from Sony.

"We are making a swap to the PS Plus games lineup for July. This month, we are adding Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition*, which also includes Heavy Rain (Beyond Two Souls**), to the July games lineup instead of Pro Evolution Soccer 2019. We apologize for any inconvenience."

It's unusual for things to change so late in the game, but it's just as unusual to see a company come out and announce they're going to give away something for free anyway. There are a lot of complex business talks and decisions that go on regarding which games go out for free, so it must have been a shock for Konami for the change to have occurred.

In fact, in a statement given to Eurogamer, a Konami rep said: "This decision was made by SIE and so please make an inquiry to SIE". Which is as close to being passive aggressive as PR talk can ever manage.
