Pokemon GO Event News: Legendary Raid Event REVEALED ahead of Dratini Community Day

If you didn't already know, Pokemon is a ‘legendary’ year in 2018 and now it's the turn of everyone's favourite mobile game, Pokemon GO, to get in on the act.

Niantic has just announced a special Raid event that will begin TODAY and run for a whole week.

The Pokemon GO Legendary Week will end on March 5th and brings Gen 3 Legendary Pokemon Groudon and Kyogre back to Raid Battles – alongside Rayquaza – around the world.

"Now is the time to test your strength! Legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Groudon return to Raid Battles alongside Rayquaza for a limited time. Now is an excellent chance to finally catch all three ancient Legendary Pokémon originally discovered in the Hoenn region!" explained a new Pokemon GO blog post.

"Kyogre, Groudon, and Rayquaza each have their own strengths and weaknesses, so challenging all three will take skill! Power up your strongest Pokémon, grab your friends, and head to nearby Gyms for a chance to battle and catch them from February 23 until March 5."

There's no precise start time for this Legendary Week, but, like all Pokemon GO Updates, we expect it will commence from 9PM GMT this evening.

And, that's not all Niantic have planned for this special Legendary Week event.

Pokémon GO Legendary Week also includes a global challenge where if Trainers defeat Rayquaza more than both Kyogre and Groudon (combined), they’ll receive some "special rewards".

What are these rewards you ask? Well, according to the Pokemon GO Blog it seems to influence the type of Pokemon hatching from eggs after the event ends.

"If Rayquaza is defeated more than Kyogre and Groudon combined, Pokémon that typically prefer windy weather (for example, Bagon) are more likely to hatch from Eggs from March 5 to March 16.

"If not, Pokémon that prefer sunny or rainy weather (like Trapinch or Lotad) are more likely to hatch."

As expected the Pokemon GO Store will also be stacked with some new special boxes – debuting on February 24 – that will contain Raid Passes to help you in your quest to defeat as many Legendary Raid Pokemon as possible.

To help with your quest you might also want to check out our handy Raid Guides, to assist you with building the best team when taking down Kyogre and Groudon.

You'll find those links underneath, but also have a look at the galleries above and below to see the best Pokemon to use as counters to these tough Hoenn region Legendaries.

It's also worth remembering, that on top of this new Legendary Week, Pokemon GO has got ANOTHER big event tomorrow.

The second Pokemon GO Community Day!

For those who don't recall the Pokemon GO Community Day is, in essence, an incredibly short event which Niantic say is to help bring the community of players together.

However, it also provides (perhaps more importantly) the chance for trainers to catch some rather unique Pokemon.

In the case of this second Community Event, players will have three hours to make the most of increased spawns for the rare Dragon Pokemon Dratini.

On top of this though, players who evolve Dratini’s evolved form, Dragonair, into Dragonite during this period will obtain a Dragonite with the rare and powerful move, Draco Meteor.

It's possible that this event could also contain some special shiny Pokemon, as was the case during the last event which saw numerous Shiny Pikachu spawning.
