Pokemon GO Christmas Event COUNTDOWN: Start Time, New Pikachu and Field research quests (Pic: NIANTIC)

Pokemon Go's latest event is due to start tomorrow.

Niantic has confirmed that Pokemon Go's 2018 winter event will be starting on December 18, 2018 and will last over two weeks – coming to an end on January 2.

There are a lot of seasonal bonuses coming with this new update – which we'll list for you in-depth below.

There will be staggered bonuses, too, meaning the event evolves slightly as it progresses – a nice way of keeping things fresh for players that open the app every day.

Typically, Pokemon Go events in the UK tend to begin at around 9pm.

Take a look at everything we know about the Pokemon Go Holidays 2018 event below.

New Shiny?

Chances are, there will be a new Shiny Pokemon added to the game in celebration of the event.

Though Niantic hasn't detailed what this Pokemon could be, it's very likely we'll see a new Shiny added – we tend to get one with every event, no matter how small the event may be (and this is a pretty big one!)

Niantic added a Shiny Sandshrew/Sandslash to tie in with a sand dune event in Japan, which was then released worldwide.

So it stands to reasons we'll see a Shiny Ice-Type Pokemon released this winter: this could be anything from Lapras to the newly incoming Snover, or maybe even Gen 2's Dark/Ice Sneasel.

We'll let you know as soon as we discover anything.

Unconfirmed Content

The image (embedded above) shows a few things Niantic hasn't confirmed.

Firstly, the Lake Guardians trio make an appearance in the image. The Legendary trio residing in the three lakes of Sinnoh: Uxie, Mesprit, and Azelf may be rewarded as Special Research thanks to new tasks introduced with the event.

The image also shows Chingling and Croagunk – new 'mon that haven't been confirmed in the game, but will likely make an appearance as Field Research reward Pokemon.

There will likely be more introductions too – we'll let you know what they are when they're detailed by Niantic or fans on The Silph Road.
