Niantic has announced a brand new feature coming to Pokemon Go that sounds like it will change the game for some players.

The mobile augmented-reality game has announced a new feature called Adventure Sync that'll track the distance you travel without the game app being open.

"Exploring with Pokémon GO has never been easier with a new feature coming soon! Adventure Sync can record your walking distances even when Pokémon GO isnt launched, working in the background to tally your distance, earn Candy, and hatch Eggs!" reads a press release.

On top of this, Adventure Sync will deliver a weekly summary, where you can see your Incubator and Candy progress as well as important activity statistics.

Check in via your Trainer Profile to see the number of kilometers recorded for the week. Earn rewards each week for each milestone you cross, and receive push notifications when your Buddy Pokémon has found a Candy or when an Egg is about to hatch!

You can opt into Adventure Sync at any time, and the feature will connect to both Apple Health on Apple devices and Google Fit on Android devices.

This is a great feature for trainers that travel around a lot but don't necessarily travel with the Pokemon Go app open. It means they can collect rewards for being active without necessarily having to be looking at their phone the entire time.

The fact it links in with Google Ft and Apple Health should also see people benefit in clocking in their personal goals for the day and week, and generally make everyone that little bit healthier.

There's no hint as to when the feature will go live, but we can expect to see it live soon.
