Pete Davidson has praised Ariana Grande following the singers decision to slam Pete for clinging to relevancy after he joked about their failed engagement in a promo for his comedy skit show Saturday Night Live.

I know some of you are curious about the break up but the truth is its nobodys business and sometimes things just dont work out and thats okay, he said during his Weekend Update segment.

Shes a wonderful, strong person and I genuinely wish her all the happiness in the world.

The comments come as Ariana dropped her new single Thank U, Next just 30 minutes before the episode aired.

Pete and Mac Miller both received a name check in the song, with her thanking both the men for their time together.

However as the skit ended, Pete joked to co-host Michael Che: Im still a good song, though.

In the first verse she sings: And for Pete, Im so thankful / Wish I could say, “Thank you” to Malcolm / cause he was an angel.

In the rest of the track she thanks her exes for a multitude of things, while also revealing shes already met someone new – herself.

However the polite acknowledgement of their relationship comes after Ariana took to Twitter to slam Pete for clinging to relevancy, and in which she teased the new single.

The pop singer appeared to drag her ex-fiance about staying relevant just hours after a promo teased Petes premature proposal gag.

Ariana tweeted: For somebody who claims to hate relevancy u sure love clinging to it huh.
