Pacer – the spirit of WipEout lives

F-Zero and WipEout might not be getting sequels anytime soon but a new indie game featuring music by CoLD SToRAGE may be the next best thing.

Zelda: A Link To The Past - coming soon to Switch?Zelda: A Link To The Past, Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Persona 5 leaked for Nintendo Switch

Futuristic racers were all the rage in the 90s, but they never really hit the mainstream and despite a number of classic games each, F-Zero and WipEout both seem to have been mothballed by their publishers.

There have been indie alternatives before but Pacer, previously known as Formula Fusion, looks like the most impressive so far, with some very high-end visuals.

British developer R8 Games are promising 60 frames per second gameplay and 4K visuals, as well as an original and licensed soundtrack featuring the likes of CoLD SToRAGE (who also worked on WipEout) and Dub FX.

R8 themselves also have people that worked on the original WipEout franchise, as well as titles ranging from Borderlands and Mass Effect to Motorstorm and Lego Batman.

Theyve even got Designers Republic helping out with the art design, just as they did with the original WipEout.

Of course, its how the game plays thats most important, but Pacer will be at EGX Rezzed, in the Unreal Showcase, until Saturday if you want to try it yourself.
