Nintendo Switch Games News: Are new Final Fantasy games coming to Switch VERY SOON? (Pic: NINTENDO)

Are you a fan of RPGs on handheld consoles? Were you left feeling a little bit cold by the Switch's debut RPG exclusive, Octopath Traveler, last year? Fear not, you're about to get some more great games.

Last year, publisher Square Enix announced that it would be bringing the incredibly popular Final Fantasy series to Switch, starting with Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition and World of Final Fantasy Maxima – and going back through the catalogue from there.

Back in September 2018, Square Enix announced plans to bring Final Fantasy VII, IX, X/X-2 and XII: The Zodiac Age to Switch in 2019 (along with spin-off series entries Chocobo's Mystery Dungeon and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles).

And it looks like we may see the first of those releases very soon.

According to Twitter user Shaun Mcllroy, Final Fantasy XII The Zodiac Age has been rated for Switch – something that tends to happen quite close to the game's final release.

"Final Fantasy XII for @nintendo Switch has been rated by @ESRBRatings. Release must be coming much sooner than later. January or February I imagine," notes Mcllroy in a tweet.

We saw the game release on PC on February 1, so it would make sense for Square Enix to potentially release the game on the anniversary – though we could also see a stealth release on the date of the theorised Nintendo Direct in January.

It stands to reason that FFXII will release first – it was the only game that got its own segment in the Nintendo Direct back in September, suggesting Square Enix is leaning on that title heavier for now.

We can potentially expect to hear more about the Final Fantasy Switch release dates in the coming weeks – possibly at the Nintendo Direct we reckon will happen within the next two weeks.

We saw a Spring-Summer 2018 Nintendo Switch games Direct take place on January 11, 2018, followed by a 'full' Direct on March 8.

Then, back in 2017, we a Nintendo Switch hardware and software presentation take place on January 12, followed by a more specific indie showcase on February 28.

Will we see Nintendo drop a Direct in January for the third year running?

We think so. And we think it would be a great time for the company to outline its incoming games for the next few months.
