Whatever happened to Amanda Ripley?

20th Century Fox has started teasing something that sounds very much like a follow-up to Alien Isolation, but what is it exactly?

Battle Princess MadelynGame review: Battle Princess Madelyn on Switch is a hard game to enjoy

The fact that a new Alien game is being worked on at the moment is not a secret, and indeed it was first confirmed by 20th Century Fox almost exactly a year ago today.

Its being made by American developer Cold Iron, who are staffed by many ex-members of MMO developer Cryptic Studios and who describe it as a new PC and console shooter based on the Alien franchise.

As a result, and given the original was not a financial hit, its been assumed that the game has nothing to do with 2014s Alien Isolation.

Except that the official Alien Twitter account has started teasing something that stars Amanda Ripley and involves uncovering the secrets left behind by the crew of the Nostromo in the original film.

Ripleys daughter was mentioned briefly in the films but featured as the main character of Isolation, which, despite its mammoth length, ended on a cliffhanger regarding her fate.

Although its possible the new game could ignore this entirely you wouldve thought using the same character means it is going to be a continuation of some sort.

It was widely assumed that the new game, believed to be subtitled Blackout, would be announced at The Game Awards in December but despite what seemed to be a tease to that effect nothing was ever mentioned.

More: Gaming

To confuse things further the Twitter account doesnt actually mention anything about a video game, so what its talking about could easily be just a comic book, tie-in novel, or similar.

The tagline does say, Read. Watch. Play though and while the play bit could easily refer to some sort of web or mobile game the fact that a console game is known to be in development gives plenty of reason to be optimistic.

At the very least it should mean you get some sort of closure to Isolations story. Which is not something we wouldve expected up until now.
