NBA 2K20 release first image of Anthony Davis and Lebron James and fans are not happy (Pic: 2K)

The very first NBA 2K20 game image was released over the weekend and as you will no doubt see from the above, it shows Lebron James and Anthony Davis.

Davis, also the cover star for NBA 2K20 has just moved to the LA Lakers so it's obviously a great look for fans of the yellow half of LA's basketball scene.

As noted by Forbes Brian Mazique, the image doesn't give too much away, coyly avoiding any key details.

"Neither player's jersey number is depicted, although it is believed James is returning to the No. 6 he wore for four years with the Miami Heat, and Davis will keep the No. 23 he has worn since he came into the league with the New Orleans Pelicans."

We're also none the wiser as to the player ratings, which we imagine will be revealed in the weeks ahead, especially when its your cover star and arguably the biggest name in the game.

However, whilst you might imagine that the first image of a new game would be something of a celebration, it doesn't appear to have gone down all too well with fans.

Judging by the swath of comments on the image, opinion seems to be that game looks more or less identical to NBA 2K19 and fans dont seem to be pleased that it's not made much progress on PS4 or Xbox One.

It's sort of like the age-old problem with the yearly release of FIFA and EA Sports. Obviously every few years a game can come on leaps and bounds, but at this stage, less than 12 months on from the release of the first game, we're not entirely sure how much better Lebron James and co can actually get.

The good news, we suppose, is that this now marks the start of what will hopefully be lot more reveals coming in the weeks ahead leading up to the September 6 release date.

So you can expect to see loads more screenshots (for fans to complain about) and hopefully our first ratings in the weeks ahead.
