NBA 2K20 Release Date nears, but will big 2K19 update make its way to new PS4, Xbox game? (Pic: 2K)

The NBA 2K franchise is one of the world's most bankable gaming franchises. Year in, year out, the game remains the high watermark for excellent gameplay and incredible attention to detail.

Unfortunately, it also tends to go hand in hand with micro-transaction controversies and it looks like 2K is ready to frustrate fans yet again with a new update to NBA 2K19.

As documented in a recent Reddit thread, NBA 2K19 now features advertisements on loading screens. While this isn't so bad, the kicker is that the adverts can't be skipped – turning a short load time into a commercial break.

You can see it for yourself in the video below, courtesy of Youtube user xPray 4 Deathx.

While many commenters have suggested this is the last straw for them and they won't be returning to the franchise, it's worth noting that this "addition" has been made to the game post-launch – something no one could have seen coming.

This is on top of the game's fascination with extracting real-world currency from players with it's Ultimate Team-esque MyTeam mode, as well as forcing players to grind their way to better attributes – or opening their wallet to purchase boosts.

That said, there's always that worry that it could be a feature for NBA 2K20 at launch.

A we told you last week, early leaks suggest NBA 2K20 will arrive in September after someone managed to grab a cheeky snap of a promotional standee.

Not only did this confirm the games release date – set for 6th September – but also, confirmation the game would come to Nintendo Switch.

And as if it wasn't obvious enough from the picture below, Dwayne Wade of the Miami Heat should be the games next cover star for the Legend Edition of the game.

This isn't the first leak we've seen for the game though, after a since-deleted tweeted from Renee Montgomery of WNBA side Atlanta Dream seemed to confirm the WNBA would be coming to the game.

The deleted tweet read:

"So cool to be scanned for the @NBA2K game. Send me a photo if you ever use my player."

The photo showed the player in a scanning booth, so it seems safe to say the time has come for more diversity in 2K's flagship sports title.

Not only is the move huge for representation, but it's great news for the game itself which will be doubling down on content.

Fair play though, it's also worth mentioning that NBA 2K's rival, EA's NBA Live franchise, has featured the WNBA for the last two years – arguably the only thing it can offer in comparison to 2K.

For now, though, it's still unclear if the WNBA will be incorporated into the 2K series myriad of modes, such as MyCareer and FranchiseRead More – Source
