NBA athletes are some of the most recognisable in the world, few more so than Anthony Davis. With his signature "Fear The Brow" catchphrase and a list of basketball honours as long as his arm, he's one of the NBA's best.

Of course, the real measure of a sporting icon is the number of video game covers they appear on, and NBA 2K20 marks Davis' second appearance on the front of the box.

Along with Davis, Three-time NBA Champion, 13-time NBA All-Star, 2008 Olympic gold medalist and 2006 NBA Finals MVP Dwyane Wade will grace the cover of the Legend Edition.

We caught up with Anthony Davis ahead of the big cover star reveal earlier today to discuss cover athlete duties, which console he plays 2K on, and which team he now uses in the game.

“Yeah, we have 2K tournaments all the time in the NBA. I think Im one of the top players of NBA 2K, Ill go against anybody. We have tournaments on the team, its fun to see who can play – a lot of people claim they can play, but when we play it get”

Anthony Davis

Thanks for taking the time to talk to us, how does it feel to be a two-time cover-star for NBA?

It feels amazing, a dream come true. I always wanted this moment, always wanted to be on the cover of 2K. Im looking forward to walking into a Gamestop or a Walmart, and looking out for my cover.

I guess you can hold that over other pro players as well, there might be some that have done it once but not twice!

*Laughs* Yeah, thats right

Have they shown you what the cover looks like yet? Have they given you a chance to play the game at all?

I play the game all the time, 2K20 wont be too much of a difference in that regard. And with being on the cover and everything, its gonna be really nice.

Are you still playing with the Rockets and James Harden in the game?

I kinda changed it up, that was my team but when they got rid of Trevor Ariza I didnt carry on with that team. Now I play with a lot of teams, I like to put it on random and play with whoever it lands on.

We're guessing you're still flat-out refusing to play as yourself?

No, I still dont pick myself [Davis previously said he found it 'weird']

Any idea what your rating is going to be this year? Are you happy with it?

I dont know what my rating is gonna be, Im pretty sure itll be the high nineties. I hope it will be! But no we havent decided what the ratings gonna be yet – although Im pretty sure they (2K) decide it.

Last year you were rated ninety-four, so hopefully higher than that

*Laughs* I hope so!

What's the standard like for 2K tournaments between the players? You still think you're the top dog?

I think Im one of the top players of NBA 2K, Ill go against anybody. We have tournaments on the team, its fun to see who can play – a lot of people claim they can play, but when we play it gets pretty hectic.

Is there anyone thats got your number in the game?

I havent played everyone in the league like I say its usually within the team. I dont think weve done a league-wide 2K tournament, but within the team, there are players that are close (to my level) but I havent found anyone who can consistently beat me.

Away from teammates, do you play online with friends back home?

Yeah, Ive got a few friends I play in MyPark and MyPlayer modes where we play pick-up games. We usually just play 5 on 5 or 3 on 3.

It must be strange, if you picked up the game 5 or 10 years ago it was very straightforward, pick-up-and-play sort of gameplay. Now you have story content, does that kind of stuff interest you, the way the storyline is woven into the game?

For sure, every basketball kids dream is to play in the NBA, and now that they have MyPlayer mode and you get to start out in the workout or high school or college, you get drafted to different teams and make a name for yourself. It gives kids hope that you can make it in the NBA. A lot of people do it, get cool gear.

Do you find the storylines mirror your own experiences of coming up through the ranks and gaining experience?

Yeah, as a young kid I was always playing 3 on 3 in the park. We had to play hard, because if you lose youre off and not coming back on (the court) which is similar to MyPark in 2K. Its a fun experience, and I cant wait to play it in 2K20.

When youre on the road, are you playing on Xbox? Or do you play on Nintendo Switch?

I bring my Xbox on the long road trips, so I only play there.

Have you tried the Switch version? The portability mRead More – Source
