MediEvil - Sir Dan is back, and it's all thanks to Crash Bandicoot

MediEvil – Sir Daniel Fortesque is planning a lavish comeback

Sony has confirmed that the new MediEvil game is not a mere remaster but a full remake in the style of Shadow Of The Colossus.

Its been almost a year now since Sony first announced they were bringing back PS1 favourite MediEvil, and they havent said a word about it since.

But Sony America boss Shawn Layden has finally broken the silence and revealed that the game will be a full remake, presumably in the style of Shadow Of The Colossus, rather than just the remaster it was originally implied to be.

This is a remake. Weve taken the original game design and weve taken a lot of the key art, and some of the other attributes of the game design and ethos, if you will, and were working with a developer called Other Ocean Interactive, and they are remaking MediEvil and that design – the original MediEvil from PS1, he said on the latest PlayStation Blogcast.

The only slight concern is that, since Sony shut down original developer Guerrilla Cambridge last year, the remake is being developed by Other Ocean Interactive, who have fairly undistinguished background making Yu-Gi-Oh! tie-ins and indie titles games such as #IDARB.

According to Layden though some of the original team will still be involved, since some of them likely got jobs in other parts of the Sony empire.

Theres still no clue as to when MediEvil will be out though and while some recent rumours have suggested that the second game will also be staging a comeback theres no hint of that from Layden.

Hopefully all will be revealed next week though, and it seems likely that the game will also be at The Paris Game Week event which starts today and which Sony has become increasingly keen on using for game reveals in recent years.
