Marvel game news: Secret NEW title in development by former Hearthstone developers (Pic: MARVEL)

The Marvel video game empire is about to get even bigger.

As well as the huge Square Enix-published Marvel game that we know is in development, it seems the Disney-owned company has something else in the works, too.

Ex-Hearthstone game designer Ben Brode left Blizzard in April 2018, taking a number of staff from the Hearthstone development team with him as he departed.

Until now, it was a mystery where Brode and his team ended up – but new information was revealed by Brode's development studio Second Dinner last night, confirming they'll be working on a Marvel title.

Second Dinner revealed that it had received a $30 million investment to work on a new Marvel title.

"In all likelihood, this will be the best game ever made,” says Second Dinner's Hamilton Chu, an ex-executive producer on Hearthstone.

“I made a spreadsheet so I'm pretty sure. It's going to take us a while to make, but we're already having a lot of fun with the prototype. We can't wait to show it to the people who we interview as candidates. Coincidentally, people should check out the new jobs we just posted.”

There's currently no hint as to what genre or form the game will take, but if this reporter's interview experience with the staff that are now at Second Dinner is anything to go by, you can expect it to build on collectible card game mechanics – Ben Brode and his staff are very passionate about the genre and we'd be surprised to see them deviate too far from the mechanics they became familiar with at Blizzard.

The company sinking money into this new venture is NetEase – a company gamers may recognise from headlines last year, when the Chinese firm invested a huge $100 million into Destiny developer Bungie. The project this is funding has yet to be revealed.

"Today, we're excited to announce that we've entered into a new partnership with NetEase to help us explore new directions," reads a Bungie statement on the announcement.

"With their industry expertise, they'll empower us to build new worlds and invite players, new and old, to join us there. They'll help us support separate teams inside Bungie to bring our newest ambitions to life."

NetEase said Bungie "will begin the creation of new worlds" with Jason Jones, a Bungie founder that has worked on games from Marathon to Halo.
