Margot Robbie is gearing herself up for a life made of plastic, and its fantastic casting.

The Wolf Of Wall Street actress has been specially selected to play Barbie in a live-action film, which she will also produce with husband Tom Ackerley – her real-life Ken.

Oscar-nominated Margot, 28, said she was so honored to bring the iconic figurine to life for the first time, as she was announced in the role on Tuesday.

She told Variety in a statement: Over the brands almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president.

Im so honored to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide.

I cant imagine better partners than Warner Bros and Mattel to bring this film to the big screen.

According to the publication, Margots production company Lucky Chap Entertainment will bring Tom and Josey McNamara on board to co-produce.

With blockbusters like I, Tonya, Mary Queen Of Scots and Tarzan already under her belt, the actress is due to begin filming Harley Quinns emancipation spin-off from Suicide Squad, Birds Of Prey, next month.

As far as the new Barbie film is concerned, its reported that scriptwriters are toying with the idea of a feminist direction for the story, using Barbie to promote positive body image and identity.

The actresss involvement in the project was first reported in October, straight after rumours of Amy Schumers casting attracted a backlash online.

And when she reportedly dropped out for scheduling issues, the comedienne was thought to have been replaced by Anne Hathaway.

The original release date for 29 June 2018 – which has already passed – was significantly pushed back to 8 May 2020.

Toy company Mattel is said to have reclaimed the rights to Barbie earlier this year hence Warner Bros. talks with the brand.
