SINGAPORE – Two recent award-winning Singapore films examine the education system here, a subject close to the hearts of many Singaporeans. And both deserve an A, though the films advocate, in their own ways, that people ought to look beyond grades.
The first is Wet Season, which depicts a Chinese-language teacher (Yeo Yann Yann) who is grappling with loneliness and fertility issues. Yeo's sensitive performance won her the Best Actress accolade at the Golden Horse Awards last month.
