Kim Kardashian has defended her decision to wear fulani braids for a second time – despite the original backlash – and claimed that she wore the look because her five-year-old daughter North wanted her mother to wear them with her.
I actually did that look because North said she wanted braids and asked if I would do them with her, said Kim.
So we braided her hair and then we braided my hair.
Kim turned up to the red carpet of the MTV Movie and TV Awards on Saturday night sporting a set of braids identical to the ones that got her in a spot of bother earlier in the year as many blasted her for cultural appropriation after she called the style Bo Derek braids.
But speaking to Bustle, the reality star slammed claims that she has been culturally appropriating the style.

I obviously know theyre called fulani braids and I know the origin of where they came from and Im totally respectful of that, she said. Im not tone deaf to where I dont get it. I do get it.
But in no way am I ever trying to disrespect anyones culture by wearing braids, Kim said. If anything, my daughter was so excited to see me get matching braids with her.
The 37-year-old also came under fire for straightening the five-year-olds hair and Kim revealed that the decision to allow her young daughter to try the style came as a birthday gift.
I think everyone thought it was this crazy pressed thing — I mean, I just used a flat iron and everyone was saying she was wearing extensions and I was like, “No, she has curly hair, so thats what the length of her hair is when its straightened”, she insisted.
I was just seeing these things that [people were saying] online and they were just ridiculous.
