Janet Jackson was the epitome of elegance when she graced the red carpet and the stage at the Black Girls Rock on Sunday night.

The 52-year-old pop icon was honoured with the Rock Star Award at the annual ceremony as a phenomenal woman in music and made sure she raised the style stacks at the glitzy event held in Newark, New Jersey.

Fearless as always with her fashion choices, she donned a stunning haute couture Christian Siriano gown. The midnight blue dress featured a dramatic train, lace detailing and black floral pattern throughout.

Janet added some edge to the look with a spiked choker on her neck and trademark raven tresses styled in a tall standing braid.

It was announced back in May that the What Have You Done For Me Lately songstress would be receiving the Rock Star award which celebrates fierce, fearless sheroes in music who have successfully pushed the envelope and carved a niche where other artists not only take note, but dutifully follow her lead.

Other award honorees include R&B singer Mary J. Blige, who received the Star Power Award and supermodel Naomi Campbell, who took home the Black Girls Magic Award.

Singer Ciara, who was given the privilege of presenting Janets award at the show hosted by Queen Latifah, praised her as a huge influence.

Everything she does is perfection, she told BillBoard. It says a lot to me. It says you gotta care, you gotta give 100 percent every time… She is queen of creating those iconic moments that we still talk about today.

Janet is certainly winning at life. Back in May she was the recipient of the Icon Award at the 2018 Billboard Music Awards, becoming one of only seven artists to have ever been honored with the award. Weeks later, she accepted the Impact Award at the 2018 Radio Disney Music Awards.

Michael Jacksons younger sister, who is in the midst of staging a major comeback, also performed her new song Made For Now with Daddy Yankee on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon earlier this month.

Black Girls Rock will air on BET on 9 September.
