LOS ANGELES – An awards season favourite this year was A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood, the uplifting story of America's beloved children's television icon Fred Rogers, played by Tom Hanks in an Oscar-nominated turn.

But film-makers Marielle Heller and Peter Saraf say the late Rogers actually makes for a lousy movie protagonist. This is because he was such a good man, he did not need to go on the usual "hero's journey" for the film, which opens in Singapore on March 5.
