Halo Infinite news: Release Date, gameplay information NOT coming at X018 says Microsoft (Pic: MICROSOFT)

It looks like we're not going to hear any more about the Halo Infinite release date this year.

Microsoft has announced that it won't be showing off its upcoming FPS game at this year's X02018 conference.

Considering Microsoft's Phil Spencer has noted that there will be both first party and third party announcements during the conference, we thought we'd hear about all the publisher's biggest IP – from Fable to Halo.

But it seems that's not going to be the case at all.

343 community manager Brian “ske7ch” Jarrard has replied in a tweet to a curious fan that we won't be seeing any more information about the game at the upcoming event.

"I'd love to start getting more info out there, and we're talking internally about what/when/where/how, but nothing currently planned for X018" he said in a tweet.

So when can we expect to hear more about the game? Well, it's possible we could hear more at The Game Awards this December, but failing that… well, we may have to wait even until E3 next year.

That would make sense – we saw Microsoft leave a long time between Halo 5: Guardians' reveal and then more information, too… we just hoping for a speedier process this time.

What do we know about Halo Infinite so far, though?

Since E3 2018, and the unveiling of the title Halo: Infinite, we have managed to collect some more information about what we can see in the next iteration of Master Chief's adventures.

“This is an entirely new chapter in the Halo saga,” Aaron Greenberg, general manager of marketing at Xbox, has explained an interview with Geoff Keighley on YouTube Live.

“What we did was an in-engine demonstration. The Slipspace engine is new. The 343 team has built this purposefully to take Halo in a whole new direction.

"Its a story that centers on Master Chief. I think you saw visually some of the capabilities of the engine and were excited to share more, but for now: Theres a new Halo coming, its Halo Infinite and it features really a focus on Master Chief, which I think will be received well by the fans.”

The game will carry on the events of the story from Halo 5 and will be a 'bigger, bolder' step for the series.
