Network Ten is putting its struggling gameshow Family Feud on ice.

The show's host Grant Denyer made the announcement on his breakfast radio show on Tuesday morning, admitting producers had "squeezed the lemon a little too much".

"Family Feud is wrapping up," he told 2DayFM listeners. "It's obviously been a huge success for myself and Ten over the past four years. We only thought we'd ever get two years out of it."

Denyer said by the time the show comes to an end in its current format, he would have filmed 1200 episodes.

"It rebirthed me, if you like," he said. "So you have a sentimentality towards it. It's a bit sad. It reinvigorated that 6pm timeslot… It did good things, but we're probably guilty, if anything, of driving it into the ground a little too early. Six days a week, twice a day.

"There's a time to move on. Gameshow host is a tag I never really liked or enjoyed, to be honest."

A Network Ten spokesman said Denyer's new show will be announced within the next few weeks.

"Family Feud has been an important part of our schedule for the past four years," he said. "We feel it is time to rest the show. It will be put on hold later this year and we will be announcing an exciting new game show very soon."

Ten is tipped to unveil a big-budget gameshow in the next few days. It will be adapted from an international format, with the network hoping it will bring in new viewers in order to shrug off its "flat" ratings.
