A 91-year-old man has died after being hit by Gary Numan's tour bus in Cleveland, Ohio.

Numan cancelled his concert in the city on Monday night following the incident, saying he had been left "utterly devastated".

The elderly man was pushing a cart through a pedestrian crossing close to the city's House of Blues venue, where the singer was scheduled to perform, Cleveland Police told local media.

The tour bus turned right and hit the man, who died at the scene.

It is unclear whether Numan was on the bus at the time.

On Twitter, he wrote: "We are utterly devastated by the fatal accident involving our tour bus in Cleveland earlier today.

"Every single one of us is filled with a sadness that made it impossible to even consider playing our show this evening, and out of respect it would have been entirely wrong.

"I'm sure you can understand why we cancelled and I apologise to the House of Blues and to the fans for any difficulties or disappointments this decision may have caused.
