Behaviour bugs

What a sad state of affairs that there are YouTubers and Twitchers out there who wont stream with members of the opposite sex to protect themselves or others from online harassment! I would have thought that in this day and age we should be able to play together without worrying about getting abused or harassed by small minded idiots.

To some extents I can see perhaps why certain YouTubers and streamers would protect themselves in this way but they shouldnt have to. I must admit I dont know what the answer is to stopping this sort of behaviour online but surely to goodness people should be able to play together without worrying about harassment from others? Some of the threats made in the article you ran a few days ago detailed by a female journalist from a female fronted tech website were pretty disgusting and does make you wonder about the mentality of some people.

I always considered the gaming community to be full of like-minded people but having read some of the articles and responses to those articles over the last few days, I am not so sure.

SC: Its a sad state of affairs but dont let it cloud your opinion of the gaming community as a whole. Attend events in the real world and youll see the gaming community is a welcoming place outside of the darker corners of the internet.

New fatality

There have been 18 Mortal Kombat games that we have seen be released over the years and the only Mortal Kombat game that offered every character available to play was Mortal Kombat Trilogy.

With there now being many newer games and a lot more newer characters being added, would anyone welcome a newer Mortal Kombat game that would offer the same Mortal Kombat Trilogy in terms of characters and endings but would also offer a group of features from the other games added, as well as a theatre mode which would allow you to view endings of characters you had completed the game with?

This would keep the game replayable and give people a reason to use the theatre mode. As well as being able to play stage music and other sounds this would be handy to have if you like a particular ending or in-game soundtrack. Perhaps even a menu that would show you how to do specific moves as well as an animated version of the character doing these.

The title would be something like Mortal Kombat Ultimate Tournament which would also create the way for multiple multiplayer tournament types and online modes.

What does everyone think of this and since Mortal Kombat Trilogy is now 22 years old do you think it is time we saw another Mortal Kombat game like this or similar?

gaz be rotten

SC: Considering all the DLC characters in the last outing like Leatherface and Alien, this doesnt sound too far from the mark. Or maybe if we could just get a fighter with every 80s horror icon beating each other to a pulp? Thatd be nice.

Rise Of The Graphics Cards

With regard to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, I think it will do okay, at least on PC anyway. Nvidia announced their next generation of graphics cards on Monday, the RTX family, which now do real time ray tracing for ultra realistic lighting and shadow effects, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider happened to be one of the upcoming titles that was showcased in the presentation.

The new range of graphics cards are being released the week after Tomb Raider, so it wouldnt surprise me if a lot of people that have just got their hands on a shiny new RTX GPU will want something with ray tracing effects to test it out on, and Tomb Raider fits the bill.

I know Ill probably get it now for that reason being as Ive got a new GPU on pre order, where as Id probably have waited for a Steam sale otherwise.

God of where now?

Continuing the God of War Topic about where to take it from here, if the Norse and Greek ones are done and Egyptian Gods are too complex or something already been used, then just go total Lovecraftian.

A whole bestiary of creatures of a varying nature and guises from the Old and Outer plains of the Gods of the Cosmos can be used. Kratos was pretty much using dimensional jumping and along with time and space to travel. He could stumble on a crack opening up from an evil dimension and a whole host of horrible and ancient evils can be used.

Its not like we have run out of various religious mythologies from the worlds history without causing offence to anyone. Take a look at the ancient Sumerian, Babylonian and Mesopotamian religions with a whole bunch of deities which can be used. A great many of these names like Marduk, Tiamat, Shamash, Sin, Pazuza, Gilgamesh, Ishtar, Ea, Nergal and so on have already been used in films and books with great authors and movie directors using the names similar to the above.

Take a look at Japanese anime and gaming, they nearly all have their roots from many thousands of years ago religions after civilization began to ask the question of where did we come from. Talking about the Japanese using inspiration from the past, they have a massive list of myths to choose from of their own of which Kratos could battle or have contact with like Amaterasu, Inari Okami, Izanagi, Izanami, Ryujin, Yami and so on.

Basically the God of War can go kicking ass from one myth and legend to the next and can end up across time to a far far future where cult Machine Gods like a type of Deus ex Machina rule. A place of cybernetic or technology resembling machine Gods or a high sentient power like dimensional beings literally controlling the Universe and the actual physical aspect of it can be a target for Kratos.

The ultimate end for Kratos can be explored here and all ending in a huge battle of universal significance of which can end the huge journey undertaken to destroy the Gods of the Cosmos and beyond. Ill be waiting with trepidation as to what the developers have in store for us next.

SC: Is Cory Barlog listening? God Of War: Tokyo Drift please.

How long till dawn?

So happy to see Until Dawn getting a sequel of sorts with Man Of Medan. A lot of people tout David Cage as the leader in narrative-driven titles, but for me, Until Dawn easily bests Heavy Rain and Detroit in the engagement/fun stakes.

As its releasing under the banner of Dark Pictures, does this mean Man Of Medan will be a shorter story in a longer arc? Or do you think we can expect a similar size to Until Dawn?

Anon

SC: We share your enthusiasm for Man Of Medan as Until Dawn fanatics. Exactly how the Dark Pictures angle will work though remains to be seen, so hopefully well hear more over the coming days at Gamescom.

Dead addicted

Dead Cells has become my new addiction which is slowly taking over any spare time I can find. On the bus, train, while watching TV – its so easy to have a quick run and feel like youre progressing despite being killed time and time again.

Its odd because Ive never been attached to any rogue-like style games before as the procedural level design usually puts me off – but this one is the first time I feel like it works, probably because the combat feels so darn good.

So just a note to say Im converted basically – and for anyone else on the fence, give it a shot and try not to lose your life too much.

Inbox also-rans

Oh wow, the third Saints (and worst) SAINTS ROW game now coming to Nintendo Switch, years after no one wanted a next gen version. WTF are Deep Silver thinking of? No one wants this and no one will buy it (just like the other next gen rejects).

Ste Cav

I fear I can only get excited about Cyberpunk 2077 and everything else is void. Can the next-gen just hurry up already?

This week's Hot Topic

With Gamescom happening this week, almost every video game that will be out for Christmas has been announced and shown to the public. So the question for this weekends Inbox is which ones are you intending to get?

With the possible exception of some, probably minor, Nintendo Switch titles youre probably already very familiar with all the major releases this autumn, so which ones have impressed you the most? Are there any youve already pre-ordered and what others are you interested in?

Which are you waiting for the reviews on and which have you already discounted? How closely do you monitor new games as they edge towards release and do you try to know as much as possible before release or as little as you can? E-mail your comments to: [email protected]

The small print
New Inbox updates appear twice daily, every weekday morning and afternoon. Readers letters are used on merit and may be edited for length.
