Borderlands 3 - confirmed at last!

Borderlands 3 – were you impressed?

The morning Inbox hopes the next gen consoles are not just more black boxes, as one reader wonders what CD Projekts secret game is.

Art of the trailer

Maybe this is just a hot take but was anyone else a bit disappointed by the Borderlands 3 trailer? The graphics look exactly the same as the previous ones, especially when you compare them to the remaster. I was expecting this to be some major leap forward, especially as its been so long since the last one, but it kind of just looked like any other yearly sequel.

I dont actually think it was a particularly good trailer al in really. It didnt really show off the open world that much and while the vehicles sound fun in theory they seemed a bit clunky in the trailer and maybe not that much fun to drive?

I dunno, it just didnt grab me like I thought it would. Theres an art to making a good trailer and I think this was one of the weaker ones Ive seen recently. FromSoftware ones are always good, since theyve been in the news lately, but Sony are really good at them too and I love the one for Zelda: Breath Of The Wild. I still watch that one sometimes, just for the hype nostalgia.

The reveal of Zelda

Youre right, that is a really weird way to announce a new Zelda. I know they already had job ads and its obvious theres always at least one on the go, but still. I wonder why they chose that Triforce in particular as well? As far as I can tell its a totally new design, although the symbols are that of the three goddesses that have been in various games.

Theres another little detail though, in that someone on Twitter found that the background to the job page uses artwork of the Gate of Time from Skyward Sword, even though it was also in Breath Of The Wild? Whether thats purposeful or they just used any bit of Zelda-ish artwork that was laying around Nintendo only knows but it all seems strangely cavalier for Nintendo.

With two confirmations that a new game is coming I can see them making a small, Were making Breath Of The Wild 2 annoucement as early as E3. Or at least as soon as the Links Awakening remake is out. Will be very interested to see if it is a sequel though, or a spin-off, or whatever. Monolith Soft are clearly a safe pair of hands.

Alleyways of Anger

Im with Breakfast Boy from Wednesday evenings Inbox re: Streets Of Rage 4. If the developers wanted their game to be its own thing then they shouldve made a game that was a tribute to the glorious heyday of scrolling beat em ups called Thoroughfares of Fury or something of that ilk.

Im not keen on the art style and while Im glad its getting made, and as long as it plays well, thats the most important thing. But if you call your game Streets Of Rage 4 you should do nothing BUT pander to fans.

GC: We agree, it does seem an odd decision.

Wasted generation

If CD Projekt are saying that this E3 is going to be their most important ever then thats got to mean theyll be unveiling their second game as well. I cant see what else would cause them to say that, unless they were going to be bought by another company or something but I dont see that happening really. Theyre a huge company now and I think even someone like Google would think twice before spending a couple of billion on them.

I would assume the chances are very good that the second game is a Witcher spin-off, which is great of course, but I wold love CD Projekt forever if it was something new again. Refusing to do a Witcher 4 is so refreshing and exactly opposite of Naughty Dog with Uncharted 4 and The Last Of Us Part II. Theyve basically wasted a generation making the same games again and I find that very disappointing.

CD Projekt though achieve success beyond anything they probably couldve imagined and then rather than doing a decade of sequels go straight on to something completely different. I respect that deeply.

Value for money

I re-subscribed to Game Pass, for two quid for two months, to pick up Crackdown 3 and have since installed and played Batman: Return To Arkham, Ori And The Blind Forest, Shadow Of The Tomb Raider, and Below. I am also continuing Forza, and currently installing Vampyr; not to mention games I already have/have had, like Mortal Kombat X, Fallout 4, and Just Cause 4 (oh the shame). Its turning in to quite the place to be for gaming on a budget.

Or if ya just frugal and a bit of a Scrooge!

Out of the box

So if weve got the next generation coming up and Microsoft is definitely making a console, and probably Sony too, what do we think theyre going to look like? Console design has been very boring for the last several generations, to the point where I couldnt even remember what the Xbox One looked like until I googled it, and then I remembered it was just the usual black box.

Its relatively stylish, as is the PlayStation 4, but theres nothing new or exciting about either of them. If consoles are to become an increasingly endangered species Id like to see something a bit more experimental this time. Something that screams, This is a games console and games consoles are cool!

I think most people have less and less under their TV nowadays, now everything is wireless, so theres more room than there used to be not so much a need to fit in amongst everything else. Even if they dont want to go crazy some purposefully wild models for people that want to flaunt their consoles would be nice. Maybe get some top art designers to make something that can be a centrepiece of the living room. Id like that.

Snooker loopy

For anyone interested in snooker there is a game called Snooker 19, due out 17th April, which from the footage I have seen of it is looking very good. It has a roster of the real players and venues and a good career mode.

The gameplay looks very realistic. I dont normally pre-order games but I have this one. Its only around £30.

Im actually surprised Microsoft took this long to scrub all mention of Notch from Minecraft, considering some of the things hes said in the past and that the game is for kids. God knows what parents answer when their kids ask who made the game! Just example #3039042 that you have to separate the art from the artist. We see this all the time with actors, musicians, and the like, where you realise that if you tried to boycott the ones that are bad people in real life youd have no entertainment at all.

Its the one thing about developers generally not being famous or celebrities that Im glad about, as it means I dont have to find out my favourite creatRead More – Source
