France is preparing to phase out 5G equipment from Chinese company Huawei by 2028, Reuters reported Wednesday.

Cybersecurity agency ANSSI will not allow the countrys telecoms companies to renew licenses for 5G equipment after 2028 if they bought it from Chinese company Huawei, according to sources quoted by the news service.

ANSSIs decision — which has not been made public — came after the U.K. announced earlier this month that it would ban the purchase of new 5G equipment from Huawei from January and force operators to rip out existing Huawei kit from their 5G networks by 2027 amid a U.S. campaign to get Huawei out of Europe.
