Fortnite Update 8.20 Patch Notes: Floor is Lava LTM, Server downtime, Season 8 Latest News (Pic: EPIC GAMES)

Fortnite Battle Royale and Save the World players last received some major new updates to the game two weeks ago, but there should be some pretty major new features and content rolling out tomorrow with the release of the games next big update.

Update 8.20 has already been confirmed by Epic Games community coordinator Sean Hamilton, a.k.a. u/MrPopoTFS, having posted a number of preliminary patch notes for Fortnite next update on the games official Reddit page.

Hamilton also said:

“Keep in mind, while were confident in the majority of these fixes, theres always the potential for a fix to not work as expected or make it into the patch.

“Once v8.20 [releases] youll be able to check out the Patch Notes to confirm what made it into the release,” Hamilton added, before confirming another issue with shotguns “not firing in some scenarios”.

However, on top of everything official, it's that time again for us to briefly speculate over what else the games next weekly update could contain – which should be dropping tomorrow morning.

We say speculate, but some of the upcoming changes have already been revealed or heavily teased. So we have a solid idea on some of the upcoming changes.

For starters, this new update is likely coming tomorrow morning at around 9am GMT in the morning, which elsewhere in the world is 5am EST or 2am PST.

Official patch notes for the new update should also be dropping at roughly the same time, or possibly 20 minutes before.

Given that this could be a more significant update to the game, it's possible this could coincide with some small server downtime as well.

Assuming the game does have to go offline for a bit, it's possible that this will last anywhere between 2 to 3 hours – depending on the size of the update itself.

Given we're towards the tail end of the season, it's plausible that the update might be slightly more restrained. That said, with two weeks to go before the new season, it could equally be packed with changes to keep the game ticking over.

Or (say it quietly) some sneaky teasers ahead of the new season.

Keep reading for a look at some of the upcoming changes we're expecting to see in the 8.20 Update.

Floor is Lava LTM

This new game mode is surely going to arrive with this new update having been teased with the games latest in-game news feed.

The description of the new LTM reads, “Get to high ground or build above the lava thats overtaking the island.”.

It's not entirely clear just yet exactly how this LTM could work, but as everyone knows the 'Floor is Lava' game, chances are players will take a similar amount of damage as when they're outside the storm simply for touching the floor.

So make sure you choose your landing location, very, carefully.

Stay tuned for more.

Arena Mode (Always On)

This appears to be a new ranked mode for the game announced in conjunction with the new Fortnite World Cup. Here's what the official blog post says:

"This is your chance to qualify for the weekend Online Opens. Players can compete on their own schedule to try and progress to the Champion League in the brand new Arena game mode releasing in v8.20.

"If you can climb to the top, youll unlock access to the Fortnite World Cup Online Open tournaments."

Although this is bringing a new form of ranked play to the game, don't bet on seeing a new spectator mode just yet. That's just greedy.
