Fortnite Save the World FREE UPDATE: Epic Games latest season 6 news has been revealed (Pic: EPIC GAMES)

Fortnite Save the World has just released some more insight into how the game will be evolving moving forward but the biggest update fans have been hoping for is still nowhere to be seen.

For those not in the know, the majority of Fortnite fans are still wondering when Save the World will be going free-to-play and exactly how Epic Games intend to support the game moving forward.

That's because Epic Games had previously promised to make the game free by the end of the year.

There's obviously still time, but Epic's latest updates have focussed on much more, despite still teasing something about "Free hero's"

With the launch of Season 6, the game saw plenty of bug fixes, whilst this latest development update has explored more on the status of Canny Valley, Power Level restrictions and a Limited Time Mission.

Keep reading for a breakdown of the new info revealed by the team.

Canny Valley

"First off, we wanted to give an update the status of Canny Valley," explained Epic's dev team. "You'll be heading back to the desert for part two of the storyline but there are some new sights to see.

"You'll be exploring ghost towns, discovering more of RAYS back story and helping to get the old band back together in preparation for the thrilling conclusion coming in part three.

"We are excited to kick off voice recording soon and expect to bring the next chapter to everyone sometime next month."

Power Level restrictions

"In the current system, missions with required home base power ratings only check the party leaders to determine the groups eligibility to play a mission.

"As a result, party leaders are capable of bringing lower rating players into content where they won't be able to contribute to much.

"We know this has been a frequent point of feedback within the community and we've iterating on our mission requirement tech to address it.

"In update we'll be making a change to the group eligibility for public missions depends on each individuals group members power rating and just not the party leaders.

"We also understand that some players just want to play with lower power rating friends. So private and friends only games will retain the current Behavior.

Limited Time Mission

"Also coming in the 6.10 update is a little bit of a twist on the Retrieve the Data mission type.

"The entire zone will be threatened by a storm that constantly closes in around a landing site as the mission site.

"In order to earn maximum rewards you will need to get to the balloon build up your defense and start collecting data as soon as possible.

"There will be plenty of rewards and a series of quest to go along with this new variant."

Anything Else?

"We will have more to announce soon, maybe a little something about free heroes.

"Among some other surprises.

"Look forward to more details from us in the coming weeks.

So, When is Save the World Free?

As previously mentioned, it should be this year at some point. Speaking to Express.co.uk earlier this year, Eric Williamson, Fortnites Lead Systems Designer, said:

“Were still looking at a 2018 free release for Save the World. Epic tried to be really generous with the content in Early Access packs, and there have been events and items that exclusive to this Early Access period already!

“We appreciate everyone whos played and supported the game so far, and our philosophy is to do everything we can to show that to our players.”

This was then reiterated when the game was on sale recently, as the description still carried the suggestion that the game would be free, in 2018.

The game's description read:

"If you'd like to wait, it will be free in 2018."

Our best guess is that we might not see Save the World go free until the end of November/early December, perhaps around the start of Fortnite Season 7 as Epic Games looks to monetise everyone buying in-game Microtransactions around the holiday period.
