Fortnite Porn, Bowsette and Overwatch: PornHub reveals 2018's WEIRD trends (Pic: Daily Star)
Pornhub has kept with tradition and released its end of year stats, once again proving that the PlayStation players amongst you are the biggest wankers.
Pornhub notes that though PlayStation players are the biggest viewers of porn on consoles, Microsoft and Xbox saw some good news – at least in that more players were using their hardware to fulfill their…. needs.
"PlayStations share of console traffic dropped by 3% in 2018 while the Xbox share grew by 4%," notes Pornhub. "That wasnt enough to unseat PlayStation as the top choice for playing with oneself, as it still made up 54.4% of all console traffic."
The rise in the Nintendo Switch's popularity perhaps is the reason for the massive fall in stats that the Nintendo 3DS has suffered: porn consumption on the device is down 49% from last year. It's worth noting the Switch itself doesn't have a browser, so it's missing from the roundup, but if more players are picking it up and searching for porn, it stands to reason it could be on their phones.
"Should Nintendo decide to unlock the Switchs hidden web browsing function, it will be interesting to see how that impacts game console traffic to Pornhub. Well have to wait for Nintendo and the 2019 Year in Review to see if that happens!" states the site.
Searches for the hit game Fortnite also defined 2018 as it skyrocketed from obscurity to one of the website's Top 20 searches of the year. Each time a new Fortnite character was released, searches would increase dramatically – Season changeovers and downtime for the game also contributed to higher search rates.

Fortnite gave 2017s favorite Overwatch a run for its money in 2018, but Overwatch characters were still on top when it came to searches.
Overwatchs Brigitte was the most searched game character at 4.8 million with a massive surge in searches after the March game update, whilst Mercy was the second most popular Overwatch character at 3.2 million searches, followed by the Ashe character who only arrived in November but managed 2.6 million views in just over a month.

Pornhub had some interesting suggestions as to why these numbers are so high.
According to Dr Laurie Betito, Director of the Pornhub Sexual Wellness Center, “searches like these serve as an indication that people use this site to not only satisfy sexual urges but also to get a different angle on something they are already interested in. To see a famous character or hot topic in a sexual context.”
"Fantasy plays a big role in pornography (and indeed in human sexuality), so its only natural that people will desire seeing sexual scenarios involving the game characters they emotionally connect with," the site notes.
"In April when Fortnites servers crashed, searches for Fortnite increased by as much as 60% over a 24 hour period."
We look forward to seeing how these trends carry on into 2019 – and if Fortnite will continue its domination of the porn market there, too.
