At E3 2019 we were treated to a behind-closed-doors developer walkthrough with Yoshinori Kitase, producer of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. We learned a lot about the scope of the project, the level of detail and how the remake is going to span multiple games!

It turns out that the game dropping on March 3, 2020 will focus only on the Midgar portion of the game.

This is due to the scope of the project – the developers are getting granular about recreating such an iconic game, meaning theyre focusing intensely on “rebuilding” the genre-defining RPG rather than pushing out a 1:1 remaster.

This means that the 2020 release will take up two Blu-ray Discs, Another fact confirmed in our session. Through a translator, Kitase explained that this approach “allows us to remake the game without having to scale back.”

Some of the core dev team from the original FF7 are also back to oversee the project, which is being helmed by talented in-house developers.

The focus on Midgar was chosen due to how iconic it is to gamers who have played FF7 – its in your mind's eye when you think about Clouds adventures.

We were told that despite the fact that this game only focuses on Midgar – it will have the scope of a standard Final Fantasy game. Basically, its going to be massive – a completely holistic rework of the original.

From the demo we saw this was clear – every engagement and conversation has been developed and fleshed out, side characters have a remarkable amount of extra dialogue – the pace is generally much slower to really lean into the beauty of the world.

7 Remake will also feature a new cast of characters, including Tyler Hoechlin of Teen Wolf and Supergirl fame as Sephiroth and Cody Christian of Pretty Little Liars as Cloud.

The line delivery is solid – you could feel the palpable tension between Barrett and Cloud, and Jessies candour was endearing and fun.

Christian plays the part of the standoffish emo SOLDIER well, – one enemy group running at him said “Its Over!” Only forRead More – Source
