Fallout 76 is down this afternoon for the online-only multiplayer game whilst Bethesda sets to work releasing the games latest update for December 19th.

This news has just been confirmed by the games online forum, which told readers:

"Today's maintenance has begun and Fallout 76 is now offline across all platforms while we work to release an update."

"We will continue to keep you updated in this thread throughout maintenance today, and will let you know as soon as the game is back online. Thank you!"

As with most Fallout 76 server downtime, no set time frame has been given for how long the game could be offline.

But based on past updates, it's usually for at least 2-3 hours.

And we should learn more about the Fallout 76 Update Patch Notes in the next hour or two, as these haven't been shared just yet.

The server maintenance was announced last night by the games official Twitter account, who told followers:

"#Fallout76 players! Fallout 76 will be offline across all platforms tomorrow morning, around 7:30 a.m. EST, for an update and maintenance."

Further messages on the Bethesda Forum also provided a bit more information:

"We're planning to bring Fallout 76 offline across all platforms tomorrow morning, around 7:30 a.m. EST, in order to perform maintenance and apply an update. During this time, you will be unable to log into or play Fallout 76.

"We'll post update notes during tomorrow's maintenance and will keep you updated as necessary in this forum thread as downtime progresses."
