Tamara Ecclestone is "almost done" breastfeeding her four-year-old daughter Sophia, just as the child is about to begin school.

The billionaire heiress, 34, said that preparing her daughter to start school has been emotional in an interview with Hello! magazine.

Speaking about breastfeeding, the daughter of Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone, said: "I definitely think it's something that [Sophia's] almost done with and it's phasing out."

Her daughter with husband Jay Rutland was born in 2014.

The World Health Organisation recommends that all babies are breastfed for up to two years or longer.

According to the NHS, babies breastfeed for comfort as well as food and so gently phasing it out will give both the children and the mother the opportunity to get used to the idea.

Ecclestone, who has been a breastfeeding advocate on social media, says she is "fine" about phasing it out. "It's happened so gradually and I've been expecting it."

She told Hello magazine: "It's crazy how quickly it's gone from her being born to now going to school. Nursery went by in a flash.

"The day she was getting measured for her school uniform I was getting really teary and the lady could tell, and she said: 'Oh don't worry, all the mums get a bit emotional'.

"I will definitely cry on the first day of school – not because I don't want her to go, but because I'm just so proud of her."
