Today, we could see Blizzard formally announce Diablo 4 for the first time.

Over the past few months, we've seen Blizzard slowly resurrecting the hype around the Diablo series with various bytes of information coming to the surface: we've seen the developer launch a Switch version of Diablo III, we've seen them tease a new merch line for the brand, announce a Netflix series, and we've heard that it's formally working on a new game in the series, too.

With all that in mind, we could see Blizzard announce Diablo 4 tonight for the first time. After all, after the opening ceremony at Blizzcon 2018, there will immediately be a panel titled Diablo: What's Next?

Coincidental timing? We think not.

You can tune in to watch the Blizzcon 2018 opening ceremony from 6pm GMT, and the panel will start at 6.30PM GMT (but you'll need a Virtual Ticket to watch that).

There are a lot of rumours flying around about the potential of Blizzard announcing the highly-anticipated game.

But the developer has issued a warning to anyone getting their hopes up.

In a recent update, the developer noted:

“BlizzCon 2018 is almost here, and weve seen a lot of rumours flying around about our plans for Diablo at the show. These are very exciting times—we currently have multiple teams working on different Diablo projects, and we cant wait to tell you all about them… When the time is right.

“We know what many of you are hoping for and we can only say that “good things come to those who wait,” but evil things often take longer. We appreciate your patience as our teams work tirelessly to create nightmarish experiences worthy of the Lord of Terror.

“While we wont be ready to announce all of our projects, we do intend to share some Diablo-related news with you at the show.”

So what SHOULD you expect?

We may not get a big look at a new Diablo game today, but we may at least get a decent look at a title card for the game – formally revealing its actual title or (if we're lucky!) even a release date.

If not, then we may hear more news about potential Diablo Remasters, or even a legacy game's announcement for new consoles (PS4, Switch, Xbox One releases of Diablo II anyone?)

Either way, something is happening – Blizzard told us that much earlier this year.

In a Twitter post back on August 8, 2018, Blizzard wrote: "Stay awhile and listen – we have exciting updates to share about the future of Diablo."

In a video posted with the tweet, community manager Brandy Camel shares an exciting update which is positive for Diablo fans.

“Wed also like to let you know, that the forges here at Blizzard are burning hot, and we have multiple Diablo projects in the works.

“Some of them are going to take longer than others, but we may have some things to show you later this year.

“We hope you stay tuned while we work to bring these new Diablo experiences to life.”

Despite it being a vague update, it is encouraging to know things are in the works.
