Destinys Child singer Michelle Williams has been forced to quit her role in a Broadway show on doctors orders.

The 38-year-old singer had only joined Once On This Island in the role of goddess Erzulie two weeks ago. However, it was announced on Wednesday that Michelle would no longer appear effective immediately.

A statement read: Effective immediately, Michelle T. Williams has been advised by her doctors to take a leave of absence from performing.

Michelle will be replaced by her understudy, Cassondra James, until 26 December before Lea Salonga takes over until the Tony award-winning show ends on 6 January.

The musician is yet to address her departure from Once On This Island, but she posted on Instagram to promote her new single Fearless just hours before the announcement was made.

I will stand at my tallest and be the best version of myself. We all have the abilities to meet and live our dreams if we get out of our own way and go after it!

Its not known what health concerns caused Michelle to step down from the Broadway production, but the singer has been open about her battle with depression in recent months.
