Dead Island 2 News: Release Date, rumours and delay updates for PS4 and Xbox One game

If you have started to give up waiting for Dead Island 2, fear not.

Dead Island 2 is the sequel to Dead Island, and is being developed by Sumo Digital, and published by Deep Silver.

The zombie survival game was confirmed in 2014, but since then fans have been left waiting.

Since then fans have been worried the game has been put on hold for good.

However, Deep Silver has reassured fans the game is in development, and is still on the cards.

In response to whether Dead Island Survivors was going to replace Dead Island 2, the official Twitter account responded: “Not at all, Dead Island 2 is still in development.”

This is because Dead Island: Survivors is being made by a different developer.

When is the Dead Island 2 release date?

Dead Island 2s release was supposed to be released in 2015, but was pushed back a year, scheduled for release in 2016.

But fans are still waiting for the action game to come to consoles and it's been missing for quite some time.

While a release date has not been confirmed by Deep Silver, the Game website says the release date is “TBC-2018”.

Whilst you might think that this would mean we'll be hearing more soon, we highly doubt the game is out this year.

The Dead Island Twitter account said earlier in the month: “Theres no confirmed release date yet, but as soon as we can well let everyone know.”

They also added they “know the wait is painful”.

The website is also, still, offering you the chance to pre-order the game today for £41.99.

Why have there been delays?

Dead Island has been responding to numerous tweets on what the deal is with Dead Island 2.

However, the message is the same “the game is still in development”.

The original Dead Island was developed by Techland – now creators of the ever-popular Dying Light zombie series – and was subsequently switched to Yager.

However, in 2015 Deep Silver and Yager decided to end their partnership due to a “difference in vision”.

The game was therefore put on hold for several months, before Sumo Digital was announced as the new developer.

Quite simply, the game studio does not believe the game is up to scratch yet.

After delaying the game further, they took to Twitter to say: “We wanted to have all of that that done for release in spring 2015.

“We have been looking at the game long and hard, and we have decided we didn't reach that goal we set out to achieve quite yet. This is why we have decided to delay Dead Island 2 to 2016.

“Right now we are focusing purely on development, and we will have more info to share at a later stage.

“We know that our fans will be disappointed by this news, but by giving Dead Island 2 more time we are confident that everyone will get a better game to play as a result.”

Dead Island 2 gameplay

Before the change of developers, some detailers were shared about the game.

However, its important to keep in mind this may have changed.

Supposedly set in California, the open-world game will feature locations such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and Venice Beach in LA.

It is also expected to be a “seamless” multiplayer game, with the possibility of up to eight players.

California will be your zombie playground, as you choose from an “elite crew of heroes who are immune to the zombie virus”.

Youll be able to craft your own destruction tools, including motorised grinders and electric machetes.
