The bizarre romance between Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise was the talk of 2005, and speculation about their break-up and subsequent divorce follows the pair to this day.
Part of the fascination for the relationship was the speed with which the pair got engaged (after two months of dating) and Tom Cruises links to the controversial Church of Scientology. There was also Cruises weird couch- jumping to contend with during a segment of The Oprah Winfrey Show that got many-an-eyebrow wagging.
Like all things in Hollywood mired by fame and controversy, the story of their romance has become the stuff of legends.
Dawsons Creek actress Mary Beth Peil, who played Grams on the teen drama alongside Holmes, told The Daily Beast that the younger actress had been a huge fan of Cruise way before they got together (were talking over a decade here).

Peil recalled an incident in the makeup trailer on the set of Dawsons Creek, when she and a few others were discussing Cruises film Jerry Maguire. They hadnt realised that the guest actor for the episode, and the woman getting her makeup done in the chair, was Cruises first wife Mimi Rogers (who played the daughter of Grams, Helen Lindley in the sixth and final season).
When the woman who was the guest actor was finished with her make-up, she left the trailer, Peil reveals. The minute she did, all the others attacked me for talking about Tom Cruise.
It was at this point, the 78-year-old veteran actress says, that Holmes launched into a soliloquy about Tom Cruise.
Then Katie launched into a big spiel about Tom Cruise being married to Mimi Rogers, Scientology, Nicole Kidman…She knew everything about him. She said, “I have had a crush on him since I was 15, and his posters were on the walls of my bedroom.” She could not stop talking about Tom Cruise. This was way before they got together, but she was certainly ready for him.
This isnt the first time Holmes has been linked to the star as a fan, and she herself admitted in a 2004 interview with Seventeen magazine: I used to think that I was going to marry Tom Cruise.

Holmes has since moved on from the relationship, which ended in 2012, which gave her her daughter Suri. She is currently in a relationship with actor Jamie Foxx.
Katie Holmes rep has declined to comment when contacted by Metro.co.uk.
