Dawsons Creek star James van der Beek and his wife have revealed they are expecting their sixth child as they opened up about previously suffering several devastating miscarriages.

The pair, who are parents to four daughters and a son, shared that they are thrilled to be announcing their pregnancy, with James posting a picture of his family on Instagram.

Thrilled beyond belief to announce that another little bundle of joy has picked us to be their family, he wrote on the social media site.

The pair chose to allow the Dancing With The Stars cameras film their first ultrasound, with the pair announcing the news live on Mondays episode of the dance show.

James and wife Kimberly are parents to five children; Olivia, seven, Joshua, six, Annabel, four, Emilia, two, and 16-month-old Gwendolyn.

He continued on Instagram: We chose to have our first ultrasound on camera with our #DWTS crew capturing the result – something I NEVER thought wed ever do… but @vanderkimberly and I have been through three of those first appointments to discover either no heartbeat, or no baby, and she wanted to share this moment.

Miscarriage (a word that needs a replacement – nobody failed to “carry”, these things sometimes just happen) is something that people rarely talk about, and often go through in secret, he added.

But there needs to be zero shame around it, or around giving yourself the time and space to grieve. We decided to put ourselves out there – not knowing what wed find – in an effort to chip away at any senseless stigma around this experience and to encourage people who might be going through it to open themselves up to love & support from friends and family when they need it most.

Happily, for us – this time- we walked out with tears of joy.

In 2018 he also called for the word to be changed as the current term implies the mother to be at fault.

Speaking to People magazine after his performance on Monday, he admitted that Kimberly decided to do it on camera, to open it up and allow people to go through the experience — good result or not good result.

The only advice I have is that you cant reason your way out of it and you cant talk your way out of it, he said, speaking to others who may be going through the same as him and Kimberley.
