The arrest comes two months after he was convicted of drink-driving and banned from driving for 18 months.

The fly-half is said to have been so drunk that his eyes were glazed as he was found to be twice the legal limit in the early hours of 1 June.

Cipriani, who was playing for Sale Sharks at the time, drove his black Mercedes into a taxi and was discovered to have 67 micrograms of alcohol in 100ml of breath.

He was apparently shocked at being over the limit but has now been fined £4,500 and forced to pay £3,120 in costs.

Following the verdict at Westminster Magistrates Court, Judge Riddle said: Im satisfied so that Im sure that the evidential breath test machine was working properly and produced a reading of 67 microgrammes of alcohol, and therefor the verdict is guilty.
