A stolen car involved in a police chase has smashed into the gates of Taylor Swift's mansion, police say.

The vehicle crashed into a wall outside Swift's Rhode Island home before ricocheting into the main entrance gate at a speed of around 35mph.

The 19-year-old driver, Shykeim Edwin Lewis, has been arrested and faces several charges, including reckless driving and receiving stolen goods.

Local police chief Shawn Lacey told the Westerly Sun that officers began tailing the car at about 1am and were forced to give chase.

Mr Lewis reached speeds of up to 65mph during the pursuit.
