For the first time in six years, a new Call Of Duty will be launching without a Zombies mode – although it will still have co-op.

It used be that only the Treyarch-developed Call Of Duty games, starting with 2008s World At War, had a Zombies mode, but in recent years its become a staple of all the Call Of Duty games – but not this year.

This years game was recently unveiled as Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare, a reboot of the original sub-series which also never had Zombies in it.

Were trying to create an authentic, realistic feeling world, campaign gameplay director Jacob Minkoff told PlayStation LifeStyle. That would compromise the feeling of playing in a world that feels realistic and authentic and relative to todays conflicts and things we face.

Thats not an entirely convincing excuse given that Call Of Duty: WWII had Nazi Zombies but its probably a good idea to start giving the mode a rest, before the concept is run into the ground.

Knowing that we needed to keep it more similar across the different modes, we decided to really lean into that, and make it completely continuous, added Minkoff.
