On Aug. 17, 2012, this young baby was almost killed by her father when she was 8 months old. Half of her brain had to be removed. In spite of this, she always wears a smile on her face!

“It only takes a few seconds to change things forever, a few seconds of frustration and anger to cause the unthinkable,” wrote Cheyennes mother, Amy Owensby, on the Facebook page Prayers for Cheyenne.

When Cheyenne Rae was 8 months old, her mother asked her father, James Davis Jr., to help take care of her, but in less than two hours, an awful incident occurred.

“I dropped my happy, healthy 8-month-old baby girl off with her dad for the night. An hour and a half later, I got the call that changed my life forever. My sweet baby wasnt breathing,” Owensby wrote.

Cheyenne, from Spartanburg County, South Carolina, was sent to Greenville Memorial Hospital by aircraft.

Having bled from her brain, with her skull being cracked, she was not expected to survive. But after one month, she was sent home, which was a miracle in the eyes of her relatives. She could respond to her family and sometimes would giggle as well.

The father, who was already separated from Cheyennes mother, confessed to shaking Cheyenne while caring for her on that fateful day. He was later sentenced to 10 years in prison.

“The man I was in love with, my first love, high school sweetheart, a guy I had known and shared a life with almost 10 years did this to OUR daughter. My whole world came crashing down,” Owensby said.

Cheyenne was on a feeding tube for at least a year, reported goupstate.com. It was a hard time for both the little girl and her mother during the slow process of recovery.

“Cheyenne was a happy, healthy, thriving baby girl now she struggles to do stuff she mastered months ago,” the mother wrote. “Shes doing amazing but it is still heartbreaking to see her frustration when she cant do something no matter how hard she tries, that use to take no effort.”

Before that, the Facebook post stated she was completely unable to walk because of balance problems.

“She literally struggles DAILY from what was done to her.. she cant hold a babydoll and her cup at once, she has to choose which she would rather hold at that moment bc one hand isnt working,” Owensby posted in May 2015.

She could not control her right foot or move her right hand because her brain on the left was removed.

“Weve had many breakdowns in the shoe aisle where were both crying bc the shoes she wants, wont stay on her ballerina foot,” the mom wrote.
